This three-day course teaches how to inspect scaffolding, using precise terminology and following all Regulations and approved Codes of Practice.
It is designed for those with confirmed experience of scaffolding structures within their individual industry sector. This includes CISRS Scaffold Card holders and those looking to renew their inspection card.
Alternatively, learners with sufficient experience may complete a SITS CV form with employer endorsement and references.
Passing the course grants the CISRS Scaffolding Inspection Card, which we will apply for on your behalf.
Course content
The course includes:
- Regulations and approved Codes of Practice
- Scaffolding terminology
- Equipment including tubes, boards, fittings, ladders, gin wheels, ropes and scaffold ties
- Practical inspection and reports
- Basic scaffolds, including:
- Independent tied scaffold
- Putlog scaffold
- Birdcage scaffold
- Static tower
- Basic independent tied scaffold
- Scaffolds with prefabricated beams
- Protective fans, pavement gantry
- Loading bay, roof saddle scaffold
- Splay scaffold roof edge protection.
Teaching and assessment
Classroom-based theory, practical exercises and computer-based training
Written and practical tests

CISRS Scaffolding Inspection Card, which we will apply for on your behalf
Entry requirements
- At least one of the following current cards:
- CISRS Scaffolder Card
- CISRS Advanced Scaffolder Card
- CISRS Basic Scaffold Inspection Card (may be expired if reason for attending is renewal)
- CISRS Scaffolding Supervisor Card.
Alternatively, those without a card will need to submit a SITS CV including references, certificates, and a letter from their employer confirming at least two years’ experience in a role involving scaffolding structures.
Email us for a SITS CV form. These must be approved before booking a course.
- CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test passed within the last 23 months, or an accepted exemption. Copies of exemptions must be sent to ncc@citb.co.uk at the time of booking this course.
- Good spoken and written English.
- Valid form of ID. See accepted forms of ID.
