Learn how to use pedestrian-operated tower cranes - no experience required.
If you pass the technical tests, we apply for the CPCS Trained Operator (red card) on your behalf.
Course content
- Understand operator responsibilities, site safety, and relevant regulations (PUWER, LOLER, CDM)
- Identify crane components, controls, safety systems, and working limits
- Conduct daily pre-use inspections, checks, and basic maintenance
- Set up and position the crane safely for operations
- Operate the crane remotely, including lifting, slewing, and lowering loads safely
- Follow load charts, lifting capacities, and operational limits
- Communicate effectively with banks person, signallers, and site personnel
- Recognise and manage site hazards, obstructions, and environmental risks
- Carry out safe shutdown, parking, and securing procedures
- Prepare for CPCS theory and practical assessments.
Teaching and assessment
- 4 days classroom learning and practical exercises
- 1-day CPCS technical tests.

- CITB HS&E test passed within the last two years, or the new CPCS Plant Operative Health, Safety and Environment Test - NOCN Job Cards
- Good spoken and written English
