This apprenticeship course is for people who want to gain a vocational qualification in road building and maintenance, while gaining industry experience.
You’ll learn a host of civil engineering principles, such as concreting, excavation activities, kerbing, modular paving and drainage, as well as the processes involved in health and safety, and levelling and setting out.

Teaching and assessment
18 weeks of training delivered over 24 months.
Week 1: Induction.
Weeks 2 to 15: Theoretical and practical training at NCC Inchinnan in two-week blocks.
Weeks 16 to 18: Final assessments

- SVQ Road Building and Maintenance SCQF Level 5
Methods of assessment
You’ll be regularly assessed using a range of methods, including written assessment, practical assessment, verbal questioning and presentation, and multiple-choice testing. You’ll also be required to complete college-based and site-based activity journals. You’ll be given clear, direct and constructive feedback to enable you to make progress and successfully complete the course.

After this course
Following completion of the Modern Apprenticeship, candidates should be able to work as a dry lining fixer in the construction industry.
